When it comes to your bedroom, do you prefer h wall to wall carpet OR handsome hardwood floors?
One can be cool and refreshing in the summer, the other warm and cozy in the winter. Carpeting can be softer on the feet while wood flooring can be easier to keep clean. We’d love to know what you guys think. Do tell.
I love the look of the hardwood floor, but if I had that in my bedroom I’d need a nice warm rug to step on when I got out of bed :)
I also love the look of a wood floor, but we’re going with carpet in our next house. Not only because it just feels cozier to us, but also because we won’t hear the dog’s nails tip-tapping all over the floor all night long. I do love the way wood looks, though, especially with a nice iron bed like in your picture.
Wood floors with a soft, hy rug – the best of both worlds!
How about a mix of hardwood with a nice area rug under the bed?
Ditto Kirstin!
Hardwood wherever possible. All four of us suffer from allergies and hardwood is much easier to keep clean. Our bedroom is the last hold out with the original carpet (from the former owners who had a dog). No matter how much I vacuum, it will never be clean enough. I sneeze alot if I sit on my bedroom floor! As soon as we can afford it, that floor will be wood too!
We have carpet now. I could really go either way, but just vacuuming carpet is much easier than vacuuming and mopping wood.
I’m a big fan of carpet in the bedroom (which is what we have now)… but wood is just so nice!
wood for sure! we have serious dustmite allergies and carpet in the bedroom would kill us. we are actually trying to decide if we want to try a bedroom rug or keep it bare…
Wood all the way!!!! It just looks so much sleeker and cleaner…not to mention that it IS cleaner (easier to clean and doesn’t collect dust the way carpet can). Yes, it can get chilly in the winter, but that’s what cozy wool socks and big fuzzy slippers are for!
i grew up with all carpet.
my house now is all hardwood floors.
handsdown i’m a hardwood floor lover. so much more rustic and natural.
when hardwood floors age, it adds to the character of the house. when carpet ages, it just looks gross and smells.
Definately carpet for the bedroom. I think it’s easier to keep clean than wood since things are more disguised in it (i guess that’s kind of gross though). But mainly we pick carpet for our bedrooms because of the coziness of it, there are plenty of other places in the house for the handsome hardwood floor look. For us, the bedroom is all about comfort!!
What about laminate flooring? I would have loved to have put hardwood in our apartment (and have sworn I will in our next place, which will be more permanent), but in the interests of time and money we went with laminate. We have a dog, and it’s far easier to keep clean, I like the look better.
I would love wood floors. Unfortunately, with the weather here, no one does that. When we asked the builder at the showhome to price out hardwood for the upstairs level for our (hopefully) new house the other day, he said they had never done that, “no one ever wants that – you’re kidding right??” I infact was not, but scoffed when they gave me the price.
So in the meantime, we’re doing carpet. If we ever get a random, large sum of money, I’m switching it out. Then I’ll buy a h little rug for either side of the bed and make sure we keep our slippers nearby if we need to.
Personally I love wood floors, but I am always cold especially in our brutle IL winters. I would opt for a nice large rug to put on the wood floors…when I step out of bed in the morning it is nice to have something soft under my feet.
I love the look of wood floors, by my feet appreciate something soft and warm to land on in the morning.
I’m a fan of carpet in bedrooms. I love wood in the living/dining areas (and home offices), tile in the wet areas- kitchen, bathrooms, mudroom etc and carpet in bedrooms.
Carpet all the way. I grew up on carpet and have since been in and out of several hardwood-floored apartments, and I can’t stand how cold and hard they are! Plus, every single little thing sticks to your feet when you walk across, so you have to be wearing something (socks, slippers) no matter what. I hate the dust bunnies too! They come back so fast…I will always pick having to vacuum over sweeping or mopping.
I always put carpet down in the bedroom, but its just not the same. Sigh. Can’t wait to own!
Our entire house is either wood floors or tile (bathrooms), so when we choose the new flooring for our master bedroom remodel we went with carpet. It will be nice to have something h under my feet for a change!
When my husband and I built our new home 2 years ago we agreed on hardwood and tile for all flooring…except in the bedroom. I wanted hardwood, he insisted on wall to wall carpeting for the same reason many others have listed–he wanted something warm and cozy to step on when he got out of bed. A rug would have served his purpose. I’ve regretted giving in ever since and as soon as finances allow I will be ripping out the carpet and putting down wood. I prefer it for aesthetic and cleanliness reasons.
We are actually debating this right now. Our house got damaged in the last hurricane and we have to decide if we want to go back to carpet, or splurge on the wood…
I like the wood but its so darn expensive
I’m currently struggling with this issue, and hardwood (or painted floors!) is started to edge out carpet. I love carpet in bedrooms, but with pets and a baby, keeping it pet-hair and stain-free is virtually impossible. And there’s nothing grosser than a carpet full of dog hair.
I’ve had both, but the carpet was gross in about a year’s time. Wood you can really clean. Carpet, not so much. You can put down beautiful area rugs, persian rugs, etc, and change the whole look of the room because the wood backdrop is timeless. Then, if they get damaged, you can send them out for cleaning, or get different ones. With wood, you can dust under furniture without moving the furniture. If you spill something on carpet and you clean the stain, it cleans the stain on top, but it does not completely clean through the padding, so the dirt is still there.
I’ll never go back to carpet.
I currently have a carpet in my bedroom and I can’t wait to get rid of it and install a hardwood floor like I have in the rest of my home. No matter how many times I vacuum, it constantly attracts dust. Also, I have a cat so it is twice as hard to keep it clean.
Wood all the way! We removed all of our carpet for health reasons and haven’t gone back!
We’ve got hardwoods everywhere, which is nice because it makes cleaning up after the dog and cat (I mean hair, not grosser things!) much easier. But I always appreciate carpet in a bedroom when I sleep somewhere else. A pretty area rug be nice when we make that purchase a priority.
I think I have the perfect mix in my house; carpets in the 3 bedrooms and dark hardwoods everywhere else! There is something about carpet that just makes a bedroom feel so inviting.
I prefer carpet because I don’t like things sticking to my feet, the dogs nail would click everytime they moved. That said, I’d love to have hardwood (okay, laminate in our case) everywhere but the bedrooms. Maybe some day!
I love hardwood floors throughout the house, but with area rugs for walking on. I find our carpeting to be so much more difficult to keep clean than our hardwood floors.
Carpet all of the way–I’ve never understood the comment that wood floors are easier to keep clean, vacuuming a carpet is 10 times easier than sweeping and washing a hardwood floor, even with swifter stuff. I HATE dust and hardwood floors never look clean, they’re always dusty, esp. in the bedroom. I had prarie-style dust balls under my bed last time I had hard wood floors.
Hardwood floors, no doubt. All our rooms have hardwood floors (with the exception of the bathrooms), and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It does get mighty cold when I step out of the bed in the mornings, especially now that winter has set in, but I have my eye on some lovely sheep skins that will sort that problem for me.
I always go for wood… it a breeze to clean (I just vaccuum the dust bunnies), healthier (only naturally occurring dust bunnies – not new ones from the carpet too!) and more environmentally friendly to boot. I do have a cool great under the bed, so the first thing I touch in the morning is at least warm… and I can’t say that I ever have things sticking to my feet… my whole house is hardwood…
wood!
Carpet, for sure! I had hardwood in an apartment I used to live in. It was so hard to get out of bed during those cold winter months because I hated my feet to touch that cold floor. Brrr!
Wood floors for sure! I’d definitely add a cozy carpet to fight off the temptation to stay in bed all day during the winter time.
Wood floors all the way! But with a cozy carpet for those cold winter mornings…
wood, ‘enuff said!
Wood, wood, beautiful wood!!!!
Had hardwood in the bedrooms in my previous home and definitely like the look but I have carpet in my bedrooms now (hardwood everywhere else except mudroom and bathrooms have tile)and I think it makes the bedroom much cozier. Maybe it’s the been-there-done-that with the hardwood in the bedrooms that is making me like the change in this house … but I am definitely liking the carpet. Totally understand lovin’ hardwood though, especially with beautiful area rugs, there’s nothing like them!
wood with an area rug. i don’t know why, but i have a really strong aversion to carpeting.
wood. I actually like the feel of cool floors in the morning. Plus carpet is bad for allergies and if you have asthma or are allergy prone — carpet is a terrible idea in the bedroom.
Wood floors all the way! You can always add a rug if you’re in need of some coziness.
Definitely prefer wood floors with a rug where needed. I love how clean they feel when they’re nice and swept. I think I like the bringing-nature-in aspect; wall to wall carpet feels artificial and stuffy to me.
I’m all about a hardwood floor with a nice h rug!
Struggling with this right now. Our family spends alot of time on the floor, so we don’t think wood will be comfortable when everyone is lying around watching movies. I may be unpopular, but leaning towards carpet.
We have hardwood in all 3 bedrooms (they were hiding under gross carpet in our older home!)…we have a small area rug in our bedroom, and a small rug on one side of the bed in the guest bedroom. I love the wood floors in our bedrooms, and walking barefoot isn’t bad either…i do have cozy slippers that i’ve worn this winter. I do feel like it’s much cleaner, i just use a microfiber cloth mop to pick up the dust. However, i do hear the clip-clap of our pup’s toenails=)
